Today, I chose to go to Lofoten, in the north of Norway, because to me that is Norway at her best (and especially if the weather-Gods decide to be gentle). Lofoten consists of a group of islands, and is an area known for nature attractions, wild life and fishing opportunities. Here you will feel like the Son or Daughter of the Wilderness, and on that mountain top - well I told you: Queen of the World. Alternatively King of the World. Nature - up close and personal - that is Lofoten in a nutshell.
Walking, biking, skiing, climbing - people come to Lofoten for action filled adventures and for relax and for just being close to the nature. Fishing might be in all those categories, and is big here. Every winter Lofoten hosts a World Championship in Cod fishing, which attracts people from all over.
The light is magic in this part of Norway. The Midnight Sun of the summer, and that blue shady light of the winter. If you want to see the Midnight Sun, Lofoten is definitely the right place to be. And yes, it is true, in the summer you can sit outside having the sun caress you - at midnight..
Lofoten is also one of the best places in the world to see the Northern Lights. If you get to see that magic playful green and blue light dancing over the sky, it will be a moment you will cherish forever.
If you have followed my travels, you will know that I have a thing for historic places. I am not sure how much I should brag about our Viking Age, or if I really want to travel back there.., but just let me mention, that in this area, at Borg, you can have a look at the largest house ever found from this age. The building is 83 meters long and has been reconstructed as a living museum with findings and great exhibitions.
This was a fishermen's area, and the old fishermen's cabins ("rorbuer") is where you will want to stay. They have been restored and made into accommodation for travelers, and all along the coast, just at the sea-shore, you will find these cozy small wooden huts for rental. Originally the cabins was simple overnight accommodation for fishermen (and for their catch - down below..)
NB! Please note that the Weather Conditions in Norway are subject to quick and un-notified changes:-) The sky is not always blue.., and it can be windy, rainy, snowy in the blink of an eye. But I tell you dear reader, when it is good, it is sooo good....
All pictures are from the public travel portal: Lofoten. Visit there to find more information about what to see, where to stay, video clips and useful information. You can also check out: VisitNorway

DeleteThis might be the best collection of photos on a blog I have ever seen. Wow, your home is just lovely. The midnight sun and northern lights are amazing. I don't think I would handle the cold and dark winters very well, but the 24 hour summer days, were quite nice. I have experienced them twice (Norway and Alaska) and it's pretty incredible.
